In this day and age of double speak, it isn’t such a stretch to see Peace symbols made aggressive by combining them with symbols of violence i.e. the Bomber plane, a Noose, a Rifle – all part of a collection of accessories by New York based designer Brian Crumley.

If you don’t know Atypyk, you aren’t a regular around here. Atypyk is a secret cabal of design geeks who conspire to remix everyday objects into cheeky statements.

Consider their latest update – A 6 Pack of Cans that act as a Vase, a Non slippery Banana Peel (It’s a Sticker), a Brand Puzzle to indoctrinate your kids early on, a necklace made out of gold plated pasta, gold plated badges, a lighter you can flip in order to decide whether you should light or not, Sugar cubes that are shaped like candy, and a t-shirt that looks like you have a tarantula spider on your back.

There’s a constant influx of jewellery elevating the status of love; fine if you’re in love with the idea of falling in love or simply an over-optimistic individual. For some of us hardcore cynics, we favour accessories with in-your-face skepticism and The Heartbreak is a definitive piece. A porcelain heart flaunting fragility accompanied by a titanium hammer – strung around a titanium chain. The heart may splinter and endure a few cracks (and who hasn’t experienced the inevitable life-lesson of heartbreak, eh?). However, the heart won’t entirely shatter lending credence to that expression – what doesn’t break you only makes you stronger.

Kiel’s jewelry are little gems of irony – using non-status visual icons such as the match stick and the retainer and amplifying their obscurity by turning them into bling jewelry.

“A One Flower Bouquet” takes the idea of creating an arrangement of various types of flowers in a vase a step further, by dissected several gorgeous blooms and reassembled the actual pieces to form something completely new and surreal.
What do you do when your day job leaves little room for you to work on something inspirational? You do what these three did – Todd Bracher, Efe Bulus and Marc Goetz live on different continents and hardly meet each other, but they used the internet to create a jont design collaborative on the side in order to create objects that provoke new ways of thinking, such as the following:

Rain Vase: combines a vase with an umbrella in order to remind us of the vital role water as in our life

22 ways to sit is a piece of furniture that accommodates all our different moods and activities by letting us sit anyway we like on it.

Something from nothing: To22 transformed an everyday object, which is typically discarded and forgotten, into something that generates excitement and creativity by taking a few wire coat hangers and suspending them from the ceiling, one hanging from the other until they created an art installation.

Universe Ring: To22 created something nearly perfect. A continuous ring, delicately proportioned, beautifully polished and seemingly flawless. There is only one tiny imperfection. A speck, no larger than a piece of dust. At a glance, it is barely noticeable. Upon close examination, it appears intentional and more clearly defined. Only magnification reveals the actual object set within the miniature interior. It is a model of the known universe.

It was only a matter of time before an architect would unleash their genius in the form of jewellery and who better than the gloriously inventive Frank Gehry. His collaboration with the world’s most famous jewelers – Tiffany’s on new signature lines has exalted jewellery design to an altogether different level.
The collections (Axis, Equus, Fish, Fold, Orchid and Torque) are imbued with sensuality, crisp angles and are inspired by natural elements as well as Gehry’s famous architectural wonders. The collection employs intriguing and distinctive textures and materials like pernambuco wood, acacia, black gold and cacholong stone.
On a related note, some of Gehry’s architectural marvels are tagged on Flickr here.

Remember when you couldn’t remember what date it was? Well…
Name: Calender Ring (Move the three rings above to change the date)
Designer: Open Concepts
With a little modification, the ring could make a great prop for a Phantom sequel.
If you aren’t familiar with the character, The Phantom wore a Skull ring and whenever he punched a baddie, he would leave a permanent Skull mark.
Now he can leave dates.
