Kelly Dobson’s conceptual ScreamBody is a portable space for screaming. If a user needs to scream, he or she can use the ScreamBody to let it out without fear of environmental retaliation. The device also records the scream for later, so the user can choose where and when to release it.

HMC MediaLab has developed a new level of interaction with a new type of large scale touch screen that is made out of an elastic-like fabric. The fabric wraps like rubber and you can sense how hard your press is, where you press it thus making you feel like you are going “through” the screen.
The material was born out of a need to create a “touchable” feel for an art installation called “Hyperfabric”. Visitors can now see sparks fly out of their fingertips or cast magic spells upon touching the screen. Pressing your face releases fairies or even stirs up ghosts.

The next best thing to Holograms, Claytronics lets you be in two places at once using just an internet collection and some super smart nanodust.
According to scientists Seth Goldstein and Todd Mowry, the machine, that’s still in its infancy, would be able to replicate a physical three-dimensional facsimile of you from nothing more than a stream of video images. All you’ll need on the other end is some nanodust that will put together your doppleganger.

This is where I would’ve written a clever thought provoking comment about the speakers while conjuring up words like funktastic or curvetastic that would’ve made you question your sexuality.
But I won’t. Sorry. Move along now. Nothing to see here.

This little gem is from Muji – Simple, durable speaker that not only makes it easier to store and transport but is probably cheaper to produce than the cheapest plastic speaker.

Algorithimic Artists have been around for sometime now, but this is the first bit of algorithimic corporate art I’ve come across – Uk based design group, Tomato, developed an interactive logotype system for Sony that allows its customers to affect their brand ID. Participants get to input a word into a sytem via an interactive kiosk (They have discontinued this) or the internet. The word is then transformed into a 1.5 second 3D animation that is attached on to the end of Sony TV spots in Japan.
Each advertisement is thus unique and contains something unpredictable and unplanned, although I’m not sure how the different motions, behaviours work out.

Graduate student, Dario Buzzini, has created an interactive wallpaper as part for his thesis project:
“The surface of the wallpaper can display text and images according to the input received from a computer. The wallpaper works like a low resolution and low refresh rate display, giving you the possibility to change patterns and contents on your walls. For example you can read your emails or SMS, but also view the images taken with your mobile phone camera. The function is that of decorating our home environments in a new and constantly changing way.”

Architect Chad Dyner has created the Heliodisplay – a plug and play device that streams video and computer images into mid air from most video sources (TV, DVD, computer, videogame etc.) and lets you interact with it with either your hand or finger like a floating touch screen.
According to the website, air comes into the device and is then modified and ejected to produce the image. Nothing is added though, to the air so there isn`t any danger of harmful gas or liquid emitted from the device, and nothing needs to be refilled so its pretty easy to maintain. Currently available in a 15 inch version for $18,600.

The Dj’ing world is finally going digital with the CDx – A turntable that uses a CD instead of vinyl yet still retains its feel. How’s that possible? I hear you ask.
Well, It is, because it’s built with the same ultra-high torque direct drive motor as a regular one, complete with 12-inch vinyl and slipmat. All you have to do is slide the CD in its comparment and you’re ready to go.
There were no prices listed on the site, but Numark’s giving one away as well. (Me, I’m hoping to get one on account of the good word I’m spreading. =) )

A couple of centuries from now, bewildered archeologists are going to find the BenQ’s 17-inch LCD monitor slash handbag in one of our time capsules and wonder why people lugged around a 17-inch monitor as a fashion hand bag.
Kidding aside, its a nice bit of gadgetry. (via Shiny Shiny, Gizmodo)
