Kirsten Hassenfed’s Dans La Lune is very much a delightful jaunt across magical realms. Lush with elaborate details yet stark in its colour scheme, this installation is simply ethereal. Abound are concatenation of stars ensconced in domes, miniature gazebos, winsome cameos aglow, translucent feminine tchotches and illuminated orbs all adorned with trimmings, crystals, curlicues and scalloped edges. Everything is handmade with extraordinary finesse from paper and intricately layered, embellished and garlanded. The entire tableau is a captivating wonderland.

Once upon a time Italian designer Alessandro Mendini created a special vase for Alessi. In order to make it even more special, Alessi gathered an army of hundred artists and designers to customize the vase. Each custom design was replicated on a hundred vases thus creating a collection of ten thousand limited edition vases that were auctioned off. This was in 1989. On November 1st this year, they’ll be doing their fifteen event in San Francisco. Unfortunately, We can’t make it but you can.
To attend, please RSVP no later than October 25, 2007 to 212-353-1383 or RSVP15@bdeonline.biz. Just Remember 10% of the night’s proceeds will benefit Creativity Explored, a nonprofit visual arts center where artists with developmental disabilities create, exhibit, and sell art.

Employing stringent simplification by using only cardboard and glue, Chris Gilmour’s creations provoke an enhanced appreciation of everyday objects. Gilmour’s interpretations of familiar objects using only a single material – cardboard – add a certain quixotic appeal and provoke us to perceive these commonplace objects in a distinct conceptual light.

Brian Dettmer’s Book Autopsies lends a new life to books. As much as I revere books, this is an artful destruction as the cleverly conceptualized, overlapping layers impart an entirely novel (pardon the pun) dimension

This multimedia art installation titled ‘Human Nature’ by Federico Uribe triumphs in the ‘Giving it a New Spin’ files. By giving a new lease of life to discarded shoes, Uribe has reconstructed a forest environment and animals including rabbits, gorillas, cheetahs, and swans. Created completely from Puma shoes and laces, these ‘animals’ are a spectacle in themselves as well as triggers contemplation of our environment.

The original Damien Hirst Skull

“Damien Hirst trips over a diamond the size of his head and dies” retails for 600 Euros
Given Damien Hirst’s notorious affinity for the lurid, this would be the perfect satirical homage to Hirst and lends a macabre significance to the recurrent theme of death and irony in art and life. This post-modern artifact is a symbolic albeit disingenuous nod to Hirst’s sensational new piece – “For The Love of God”.
As Hirst succinctly put it, “Death is a such a heavy subject…” – oh, the marvelous irony of it all.

Enter the world of enthralling art installations by Peter Callesen. Peter traverses the fairytale landscape weaving between dreams and reality in the creation of these whimsical masterpieces. Lending life to lapsed childhoods, Peter brands enchanting three dimensional creations as a kind of sublime utopian embodiment. Layers take on a magical nuance as perceived by the transformation of a flat piece of paper. The static sculptures, with their inability to ‘escape’, lends a tragic air to the entire installation.
